The Web Unlocker is a "send a URL, get the page" API. No proxy pool to manage, no retry, CAPTCHA or fingerprint logic to maintain: send the target URL to the unlock endpoint and the server picks the right exit, handles anti-bot challenges, retries failures and returns the page HTML. Exits span 200+ countries and regions.
The problem it solves
When scraping protected sites through raw proxies, the engineering lives after the request fails: rotate the IP, solve the CAPTCHA, fix conflicting fingerprints, requeue the timeouts. That logic is scattered across your codebase and hard to measure. The unlocker collapses the whole chain server-side:
| Concern | DIY (proxies + your code) | Web Unlocker |
|---|---|---|
| Exit IPs | Buy a pool, rotate yourself | Server picks exit type & geo per target |
| Anti-bot challenges | Integrate solvers / fingerprints yourself | Built-in, continuously updated |
| Retries | Build queues and backoff | Server-side; only successful requests billed |
| Observability | Own logging and success metrics | Per-request status and usage in console |
| Billing | Traffic + engineering | Per request; pricing announced at launch |
How it works
The unlock endpoint is a plain HTTPS API. Pass the target URL as the request target and authenticate exactly like the proxy products (username/password):
# Example: fetch a page through the unlock endpoint import requests proxy = "http://username:password@unlock-host:port" r = requests.get( "https://target-site/any-page", proxies={"http": proxy, "https": proxy}, timeout=30, ) print(r.status_code) # 200 = unlocked print(r.text[:200]) # target page HTML
Your code only cares about two things: send the URL, parse the HTML. IP selection, sessions and retries all happen server-side.
Typical use cases
E-commerce price & stock monitoring
Product, search and pricing pages behind strict anti-bot systems — one endpoint feeds your parsers.
Market & competitive research
Aggregate public data across sites for benchmarking, without maintaining a per-site playbook.
Content aggregation & snapshots
News, listings and classifieds that update constantly — scheduled fetches with server-guaranteed success handling.
How it fits the IPLight lineup
If your team already runs stable scraping code and just needs clean exits, dynamic residential proxies (from $1/GB) plus your own retries may fit better. If you want the anti-bot chain off your plate — or the target is strict enough that DIY cost blows up — the unlocker is the lower total-cost route. Both share one account and console, so you can switch anytime.
FAQ
Web Unlocker vs buying residential proxies directly?
Residential proxies give you IPs and connection details — rotation strategy, retries, CAPTCHA handling and fingerprinting stay in your code. The Web Unlocker bundles all of that server-side: send a URL, receive the page. Proxies are more controllable; the unlocker saves code and maintenance.
How is the unlocker billed?
Per successfully processed request, each counted individually. Plans and unit pricing are being finalized — contact sales for a quote. Register an account now to reserve early access.
Can I start using it today?
The Web Unlocker launches soon while we finish capacity and stability work. Register, then contact sales with your target sites and estimated daily request volume to get prioritized onboarding.
What does the API return?
The rendered HTML of the target page by default. Your code handles a normal HTTP response — no proxy plumbing, retry queues or challenge solving on your side.
What is it good for?
Strictly protected targets where maintaining your own proxy pool and retry logic is expensive: product and price monitoring, content aggregation, market and competitive research. Compliant collection of publicly available data is the design boundary.
How does the cost compare to a DIY stack?
DIY cost = residential traffic + wasted blocked requests + engineering time on CAPTCHAs and fingerprints. The unlocker bills successful requests only and absorbs failed challenges server-side — usually cheaper when targets are aggressive.
